Amazing Foliage! Sunday, Oct 4 2009

Leaves are turning and views are just glorious!  Oct. 3rd was supposed to be peak BUT it has stalled which means there will be about 2 more weeks of prime leaf-peeping.

This coming week is very busy but we do have a few cottages left…don’t miss out on one of the best years we’ve had for foliage (the experts are saying this is the best it has been in 10 years)…I guess after such a rainy June & July, we deserve it!

Our restaurant will be open through Sunday, Oct. 11th (the only Sunday we are open).  Don’t miss out on Howard’s amazing cuisine…top it all off with his famous, Triple Chocolate Mousse Torte…one lady guest said it was better than…you get the idea!

We will beViews from Our Verandah adding a new Ice Fishing Package that will be available January 1-March 31, so check back on our site www.greenvilleinn.com or call us for details 1-888-695-6000.

Leaves are starting to turn Tuesday, Sep 15 2009

We’ve been noticing that some of the trees are starting to turn color…fall is here!

We’ve been experiencing perfect fall weather…cooler temperatures and sunny, clear days… a perfect combination!

FallFoliage1 are still around.  Many of our guests are still enjoying moose safaris with our expert guides.

Chef Howard has been getting rave reviews!  The restaurant is open Monday-Saturday evenings until Columbus Day.  We will, however, be open on Sunday, October 11th, which will be our last day for the season.

Jeff will continue to make his delicious breakfasts every morning!

Summer Days

Summer Days

We asked for summer weather…and we got it!   Sunny, warm weather with no forecast of rain!

Thank goodness we have air conditioning for those guests who need it…let’s see…pillow-topped beds, scrumptious breakfasts, magnificent views and true fine dining in a historic lumber baron’s mansion…what else could you ask for…oh, I forgot…one block from town, one block to the lake!

By the way, our new apple trees and grape vines are doing great!

Finally…Sunny and Warm!! Friday, Jul 10 2009

We ended up having a perfect 4th of July and our guests truly had fabulous views of the fireworks.  Greenville put on a wonderful display this year.  It was  fun listening to all the “oohs and aahs”…the horns honking and the cheers from the crowds below us showing their appreciation after the finale.  Fireworks on the 4th always choke me up…I guess because I have realized over the years how important it is to celebrate our amazing country and all that it stands for.   It was a pleasure filling up the restaurant and then enjoying such an awesome display of patriotism with everyone.  Thanks, Greenville!

Today’s weather was simply gorgeous and the forecast for this weekend is for more of the same…well, it is about time!

Jeff planted 6 new apple trees in the lower field and we are planning to put in even more…our own orchard! We have Macinotsh and Cortlands…not only will they look lovely…we will get some great apples in a few years.  The mature trees that we already have are producing alot of fruit that we will use this fall.

Jeff is also starting seven grape vines in the lower field.  A vineyard…all kinds of possibilities spring to mind!!  At the very least, we will make some jam and preserves when they start bearing fruit.  Pretty cool looking too!  We toured many of the vineyards at Napa in 2007 which sparked the idea of utilizing our lower field.   As soon as he has everything planted, I’ll post a photo.   Let us know if you have any hints or suggestions.

Jeff’s vegetable garden is doing very well…he has informed the chef that he will have squash in a week!  Tomato plants are doing great in spite of all the rain.   A few days like today will really make everything explode!

Moose and a Bald Eagle Monday, Jun 29 2009

Moose!

Moose!

Jeff and I took a ride this afternoon and saw this young cow on the side of the rode…she was so close to the car…someone drove up behind us and she got spooked…otherwise I think it would have been a great picture.  Moose aren’t usually bothered by us humans unless we make alot of noise….the sudden movement of the car caught her attention so she started to move on.

We also saw a bald eagle…of course much too fast for me to capture with my digital camera!  I’m sure if I keep bringing along my camera, I’ll eventually get a good picture!  If any of our guests have a good picture they want to share, they can be posted on the blog directly or send them to me and I can post them.

Here Comes the Sun! Wednesday, Jun 24 2009

We actually woke up this morning to the glorious sun!  The weather map shows that all the sunny weather is up north where we are…keep it coming!  We’ve had so much rain…so I guess the rest of the summer will be sunny days and rain only at night?  One can only hope!

With all that rain, everything is GROWING!  Hope our veggies do well. Seems like we can’t keep up with the lawn…but it is lush and GREEN!

4th of July “All American” Lobster Dinner Wednesday, Jun 17 2009

Maine Lobster

Maine Lobster

Join us for a special evening of great food, fabulous views and sparkling fireworks.

We are offering a 3-course “All American”  Maine Lobster Dinner on 4th of July.  A  Greenville Inn salad, 1 1/2 lb. Maine lobster with corn-on-the-cob, and a choice of desserts, is included in the $25. price.  We will also be offering our very extensive, delectable menu, for those of you (like me) that want to pick and choose which courses you would like…no “assembly-line” food at the Greenville Inn!  Our normal menu has several appetizer choices,  two salad choices, five entrees, and five desserts, as well as the ”Chef’s Daily Soup”, “Catch of the Day”, and other chef’s Featured Items.   So, with all these choices, we are sure that you will find something different each night you dine with us.  Of course, since we are true fine dining, everything is “made from scratch”.  We are also very pleased that Chef Howard is using many local ingredients (Maine raised lamb, cheese, greens & vegetables).

Our garden is coming along…we have flower buds on our tomato plants, so we are expecting many cherry tomatoes for our salads.  Jeff also has numerous herbs growing…the dill is really taking off!  Our apple trees were covered with blossoms, so I think we will have many apples to add to the menu.

Book early for the 4th, seats are limited.  1-888-695-6000  innkeeper@greenvilleinn.com   www.greenvilleinn.com
